Everyone knows about Ghana’s basketball program and the huge potential of the senior national teams, clubs and schools in the West African country.
Other than African powerhouses like Angola, Cote D’voire, Nigeria, Libya and few more others, perhaps no country on the continent has as much burgeoning talent about to explode onto the West African scene especially.
Braves of CEPS’ triumph at the recently held eight-club West African championship send a strong signal of the potential of the growing sport in Ghana.
“It was a great experience to go with the CEPS team,” star man Baniba Dodzie told basketballghana.com
“We were a very young team and we grew up together.”
Dodzie has made a name for himself in international basketball for many years, where he has been instrumental in the rise of CEPS.
“Just to be with that group of guys, representing our club at the international level, going to a place like Benin it was just a great overall experience,” he said.
“Benin was a very interesting place with fine performances from the participating teams.
He hit double-figures as CEPS strolled to victory against host-club Jordan Warriors
Dodzie is a player that has a bounce in his step and is always optimistic.
Despite last year’s disappointment over not reaching the top level in Africa, he says the future is bright for CEPS.
“Definitely,” he said.
“I think we will make that next step and you see all of these guys from CEPS getting better and better. guys
“Young guys keep coming up and getting better and better and I think as our young group grows, we’ll be very, very good.”
Baniba Dodzie of CEPS, current Ghana MVP, is a small forward many expect to be the first pick of this season’s draft for international qualifiers, as well as teammate Hashi Brimah, one of the powerful players in the country.
Ghana produced an awesome display to defeat Tunisia 47-45 in the 2012 Afro U18 Basket Championship in Maputo, Mozambique and went ahead to place eight in the competition.
The country has never been short of talent and it was evident in previous wins over Benin, Burkina Faso and Libya.
