Atletico Atenas Montevideo has signed Ghanaian centre Ryan Blankson.
The 33-year-old has inked a long term deal which will keep him at the club for the next three-years.
He played most recently at University Atletica. In 37 games he recorded 9.2ppg and 10.5rpg last season.
The previous (11-12) season Blankson was tested by Malvin. In 12 games he averaged 4.5ppg and 5.8rpg that season. He also played 2 games in Liga Sudamericana where he averaged just 1.0ppg.
Blankson also spent pre-season at Atletico Aguada that year. He helped them to end the regular season as a second best team in Uruguay LUB Capital Division.
Blankson was tried-out by Guruyu Waston (Metropolitan) that season. In 16 games he averaged 10.8ppg, 7.6rpg, 2.1apg and 1.0spg.
Blankson is a very experienced player. He has played also professionally in Argentina, Australia (Mount Gambier Pioneers), Romania, Switzerland (Monthey), United Kingdom, Venezuela (Panteras) and Uruguay (Cordon, Tabare and Nacional).
Blankson attended Loyola University of Chicago until 2003 and it will be his eleventh season in professional basketball.
His game is described as: Banger at 6’6’ has a nose for the ball. No one will out work him. Can score down low and step out and hit the jumper.
Great rebounder at both ends of the court. even playing at forward. Led the NCAA in offensive rebounding in 2002. Also ranked 18th in the nation in rebounding with 10.1 rpg.
Intimidating on defence where he has averaged more than 2 blocked shots for most of his career. His brother Odartey plays also professional basketball.
