NBA Stars Luol Deng and Pops Mensah Bonsu are expected to visit the first ever Sprite Ball Clinic in Ghana next week.
The three-day clinic sponsored by Sprite, the leading beverage brand in basketball and organized by Rite Multimedia with support from the Ghana Basketball Association, will take place in three regional capitals; Accra, Kumasi and Cape Coast.
This regional clinic is intended to improve the understanding of the game amongst young players in the country particularly at the High School level which will impact their standard of play at the annual Sprite Ball Championship.
Luol Deng of the Chicago Bulls and Pops Mensah Bonsu (formerly of Toronto Raptors) are expected to visit these venues to interact and share basketball knowledge with participants.
The first session takes place at the Labone Senior High School in Accra on Monday July 27 where players drawn from the Greater Accra region will undergo some intense workout under the guidance of local trainers.
The team will then move to the Garden City on Tuesday to pay a working visit to Asantehene Otumfuor Osei Tutu 11 and participate in the Ashanti Regional clinic at the Opoku Ware School.
The discussion with the world respected king will focus on ways of promoting the game in the country amongst other important areas to explore.
The team will spend their last day in Cape Coast on Wednesday July 31 where a similar exercise will take place at Mfantsipim School.
After the three-day exercise, one player will be selected to participate in the 2013 Basketball without Borders programme in South Africa in August.
For Luol and Pops, it’s a way to spread the game of basketball and impact the lives of Ghanaian players.
