Twenty-four schools will participate in the 2013 edition of the Sprite Basketball Championship.
The schools have been drawn from six regions including Greater Accra, Central, Ashanti, Volta, Eastern and Western Regions.
They were chosen based on their consistent performances for the past five years in the prestigious competition.
Schools in the Greater Accra Region had the lions’ share of representation with giants Accra Academy and Presbyterian Boys Senior High expected to be joined by Labone, Ghana Lebanon and Islamic School (GLISS), Armed Forces and Aquinas in the boys category.
Two-time national champions Sacred Heart, Tema Senior High and Achimota will represent the girls division from the capital.
Eastern Regional champions Koforidua Secondary Technical School (KSTS) and rivals Pope Johns as well as Akosombo will join the ranks from the Eastern Region.
Akosombo girls will also represent the Region.
Record-holders Mfantsipim School, Adisadel College, Wesley Girls and Aggrey Memorial have also earned the right to play in the 6th edition of the competition.
Both Mfantsipim and Wesley Girls have remained impregnable in the Central Region and will be one of the hot contenders for the ultimate title.
Mfantsipim are the defending national champions.
Three-time Volta Regional Champions Keta Senior High (Ketasco) will lead the pack of schools from region to participate in their 4th Sprite Ball Championship.
Ketasco will be joined by rivals Keta Business School (Ketabusco). There are no representation from the girls division.
Ashanti Regional powerhouses Prempeh College and Opoku Ware have booked their tickets with current girls champions Yaa Asantewaa also in the frame to defend their crown.
Giants of the West Ghana Secondary Technical School (GSTS) will be joined by Fijai Senior High (girls) from the Western Region.
The 2013 edition of the championship is building up slowly as teams begin serious preparations for the biggest basketball even for senior high schools in Ghana.
The two-day event will attract thousands to the El-Wak and Aviation Social Centre on January 4-5, 2013.

why in ashantie region only two boys schools has being pick. is not normal
why is the motown boys team not always invited?is not fare something should be done for the 2013 sprite ball competition…
they are willingly and ready for the 2013 competition…which is achimota senior high
so please do something now for the motowners to take part this year or else it wont be fare on their side.the boys team.
The selection for the 2013 sprite event is not fear.mawuli school has to represent volta region.
Mawuli school needs a place in next years tournament.
Please we hope next time you include Mawuli senior high to represent volta region
why is saint pauls in volta region not participating,they have a new good squad of team…………………they should be tested.
