Basketball has over the past few years seen tremendous growth in popularity and patronage. It has been described by many sports followers as the number two most popular and patronized sport in Ghana now even with the limited facilities.
One group credited for the huge revolution is Rite Multimedia, an Accra-based production firm.
Rite Multimedia will from January 2013 start a brand new television quiz programme dubbed “The Basketball Show”, designed to test people’s knowledge and understanding of basketball. There are attractive cash prizes and products for winners.
As part of activities leading to the start of the programme, Rite Multimedia has launched an SMS platform that will provide daily news on basketball and activities to the general public. These updates will serve as questions to be answered on the show.
The information will centre mostly on the major basketball events in the country ranging from the Milo Junior Ball, Sprite Ball, Community Dunks, Greater Accra Basketball League, the Universities, Polytechnics and Colleges (UPAC) games as well as regular updates from the NBA.
Information on major signings, injuries, mega deals as well as up-close details on top players will also be provided to the public.
