USA Men’s Basketball Team Defeats Spain to Win 2012 Olympic Gold

In spectacular fashion, Team USA’s men’s basketball team beat Spain by a score of 107-100 to capture the gold medal at the 2012 Olympic Games.

The American team was heavily favored throughout the tournament, but the Spanish’s towering size was the one advantage that could lead to an upset of Team USA’s best.

With scoring stars like LeBron James, Carmelo Anthony and Kevin Durant, no advantage in the low-post could have stopped the United States’ shooting barrage.

With no losses on its record and sheer dominance over opponents throughout the Olympics,  Team USA would have considered anything besides a gold medal a complete and utter failure.

From Day 1, the Spanish national team was slated as the one squad in the Olympic tournament that could give the Americans a run for their money, but even its extensive size advantage wasn’t enough to stifle Team USA’s scoring prowess.

The Gasol brothers are one of the scariest tandems in basketball, and against any other team, these men would simply dominate. Against Team USA, though, they were kept in check by the Americans’ speed and shooting skill.

The Americans played this entire tournament without any real presence in the low post at all, so just imagine how great they would have been with a player like Dwight Howard controlling the lane. Too bad he was holding the NBA hostage.

With one of the wildest NBA offseasons in recent memory almost over, the United States men will return home to celebrate the glory of an Olympic championship, but they will be returning to work almost immediately.

Many fans and experts alike will begin comparing this squad to the other Olympic basketball teams like the 1992 Dream Team, but the players will just be looking to enjoy the rest of their offseason before the mad rush this fall.

The NBA season starts in October, so the adjustments players need to make to their new teams or with their new teammates have to begin immediately to ensure the best quality product for the regular season.
