Every competition presents the platform for new talents to emerge and the opening day of the Greater Accra Indomie Community Dunks has seen one such product.
Adabraka’s small forward Ridwan Ajaj surely comes onto the plate as the new kid on the block after excelling heavily for his community.
Despite Adabraka’s narrow defeat to Labadi in their opening group game at the CYCC basketball court, the 13-year-old was in a class of his own with sublime dribbling skills and power play.
His incredible character never went unnoticed. His ability to pressure the passer and his knack for fronting the bigs brought him many admirers at the venue last Saturday.
Indeed he emerged as the fans favourite as he put up a defining performance that separated him from his peers.
From criticizing his game as probably too individualistic, he took his game higher, won the chip and brushed the dirt off his shoulder to take their game to their opponent.
“We are not so disappointed that we lost because this was our first time but we gave off our best,” Ridwan told BASKETBALLghana.com
“I am happy with my personal performance and the collective effort of all my colleagues,”
“We are down at the moment but we’re not out at all. We know the next game is going to be very difficult but we have learnt our lessons,”
“I am not going to allow all the plaudits to get into me because I am very young and have the world at my feet.”
The exciting player is expected to inspire the side in their next meeting against highly-fancied Dansoman on Saturday August 11.
