Ghana’s Under18 basketball team chalked piece of history by beating perennial rivals Nigeria to qualify to the 2012 Afrobasket championship.

The Ghanaian edged past their  counterpart in a game the Nigerian side has under control in the first half with a six points advantage of 37-31 (15-11, 22-20).

The Ghanaian side who are taking part in any age grade competition on the continent soon turn the table against the Nigerian at the resumption of play in the third quarter forcing the Nigerian side to make series of turn-over ending the third quarter by 12-08 points in Ghana favour.

With a two points deficit going into the last quarter Ghana continue it offensive build-up beating Nigeria roundly on the floor winning the last and decisive quarter in grand style to the admiration of the fans by 26-13 points to push Nigeria to the third spot on the log while Liberia occupied the rear.

Meanwhile Cote D’voire picked the other ticket after whitewashing Liberia 70-30 at the Palais des Sports Treichville.

The last game of the qualifying series which drew a large crowd saw the young Elephant winning in all four quarters by 13-03, 13-09, 18-07 and 26-11 points saw the Cote dIvoire winning the series with a 5-1 record for 11 cumulative points to top the qualifiers.
