The University of Ghana begin their quest to win the 2011 Universities, Polytechnics and Colleges (UPAC) basketball championship with a difficult opening game against Takoradi Polytechnic.
Both sides came second in their respective zones with defeats to the University of Education (Winneba) and Accra Polytechnic respectively.
First games are always crucial for team confidence and that has generated massive interest among the home fans.
The country’s Premier University has been buoyed by the return of Kelvin Ankrah who missed the zone B qualifying round. His inclusion will be a huge boost for the GUSA champions who are keen to put the smiles on the faces of their vociferous supporters.
They will rely on the efficiency of young Nii Lantei Blankson who was their best performer last two weeks at the same venue with team captain Osei expected to direct affairs from the centre of the court.
But they come up against a side that has been so impressive over the past five years at the Polytechnic level. They were losing finalist at last year’s Ghana Polytechnic basketball championship and should bear ample testimony of what they bring to the table.
Brace yourself for the opening game of the grand finale of the 2011 UPAC basketball championship with eyes firmly gripped on this explosive encounter.
The battle has just begun!!
