Kumasi Polytechnic (K-Poly) emerged winners of the Zone Three version of the Universities, Polytechnics and Colleges (UPAC) Basketball Championship after they defeated Sunyani Polytechnic 48-35 in the finals at the Kumasi Polytechnic Basketball court, Amekom last saturday.
Cheered on by the vociferous singing group ‘the Warriors’, the men from Kumasi Polytechnic displayed maturity, dexterity and power play throughout the game to ensure that they recorded a resounding victory over all the visiting teams.
The event, which was sponsored by Communications giants, Tigo and supported by Red Bull Energy drink saw four selected tertiary institutions in the Ashanti region fighting for the two available slots in the zone to advance for the grand finale.
Kumasi Polytechnic, the overwhelming favourites advanced to the finals by beating Garden City University 41-37 and defeated Christian Service University 41-19 in an all play all system.
Christian Service University picked the third place by beating Garden City University 41-37 in a nail biting encounter. Kumasi Polytechnic and Sunyani Polytechnic thus qualify to play in the grand finals this saturday.
The UPAC Basketball Championship enters the Grand finale with Accra Polytechnic, Sunyani Polytechnic, University of Education,Winneba, Takoradi Polytechnic, Kumasi Polytechnic and host University of Ghana (Legon) battling for honours on Saturday, April 16 at the main basketball court of University of Ghana.
