It sounds crazy and possibly weird but it may take more than determination and team chemistry for Adisadel College (Adisco) to halt the incredible run of Central regional Champions Mfantsipim in the Sprite Ball Championship.
The two perennial rivals have been at each other’s throat for the past three years in the most prestigious basketball competition amongst high schools in the region but the oldest Senior High School in Ghana has won the battle for pride and in return lifted the trophy for the third consecutive time.
Mfantsipim once again underlined their status as the most successful and ‘feared’ basketball team in the region with a swash buckling performance to silence the hundreds of Adisco fans who had gathered at the Schools and Colleges Park at Cape Coast over the weekend
For once, Adisco thought the exploits of power forward Selassie could inspire them to beat the rivals for the first time in the competition but that was never to be as they suffered another humiliating 17-5 defeat in the boy’s final.
Mfantsipim were technically and tactically superior on the day and the huge presence of the talent on shore-was too much for Adisco to contain as they taught them some lessons in the game.
It’s been the same scenario for the past three years where Mfantsipim have strolled on to become victories with so much ease.
It’s gradually emerging that Cape Coast Technical Institute (Cape Tech) is rather proving to be strong contenders in the region and for the second time running, they’ve given Mfantsipim a good run for their money.
Buoyed by the death of the 2009 discovery of the year, Martin Hoodbroke who was the pivot around which the side evolved, only a momentarily loss of concentration made Cape Tech pay in their opening round robin fixture losing the breath-taking and end to end action 11-10.
Many fans left the venue well-convinced Adisco especially will probably need a miracle to stop the incredible run of ‘Kwabotwe’.

PLEASE IT LOOKS AND SEEM AS THE SPRITE BALLING IS BEEN CENTERED ON SOME PARTICULAR SCHOOLS IN GHANA HERE “TOP SCHOOLS” AND I KNOW THAT THE BASKETBALL IS A REGIONAL SOMETHING,AS A PRODUCT OF ONE OF THE CENTRAL REGION SCHOOLS FOR THESE PAST YEARS WHEN THE SPRITE BASKETBALL BEGUN MY SCHOOL MANKESSIM SENIOR HIGH SCHOOL HAS NOT BEEN SELECTED TO PARTICIPATE IN THIS COMPETITION A SITUATION THAT I FIND VERY UNEVEN. EVEN THOUGH AM OUT OF THE SCHOOL NOW I ALSO WANT TO SEE AND HEAR THE NAME OF MY SCHOOL BEING MENTIONED ON AIR NOT ON THAT ALONE ALSO BRING UP THE NAME OF THE SCHOOL TO THE LIGHT AND ALSO UNEARTHEN HIDDEN TALENT AMONG THE STUDENT. PLEASE I WANT TO USE THIS OPPORTUNITY TO ASK THE ORGANIZERS TO INVOLVE THE ABOVE MENTIONED SCHOOL WHICH IS ALSO IN THE CENTRAL REGION DURING THE NEXT SEASON OF THE SPRITE BALLING THANK……………. I MUST COMMEND SPRITE BALLING IS REALLY BRINGING UP TALENTED NBA STARS WHICH IS REALLY LAUDABLE KUDOS TO THE MANAGEMENT OF SPRITE GOD BLESS YOU FOR YOUR GOOD WORK.
We really appreciate your concern and it extremely noted. The Sprite Ball Championship in the central region goes through many phases before the final 16
teams are selected for the comopetition.
If Mankessim Senior High has not participated in the competition, then it stands to butress the point that they may not have qualified from the zones which effectively rules them for the main competition..
However we do hope that your school will up their game ana qualify next year… thanks for the concern and let continue to support the game….
Augusco raise ur body. I want to see u lift the trophy next year. I know gone were the days when basketball was not basketball when the century model is not mentioned.
