Sacred Heart Girls were a delight to watch in the grand-finale of the Sprite Ball Championship in 2009 despite placing lowly third in the regional qualifiers and as they take part in the 2010 competition all eyes will be firmly glazed on the exploits of the young players who made their school proud.
Sacred Heart will be one of the title contenders this year after that startling performance last year and should be watched out by the rest of the schools that will participate in the competition in the Greater Accra region on Thursday November 18 at the El-Wak stadium.
After showing off so much promise and power play last year, the Accra-based school should go into Thursday’s game as the overwhelming favourite for the big tag but will obviously face stiff opposition from the other girl schools who’re also determined to carve a name for themselves and their respective schools.
They were beaten by Tema Senior High Girls at the regional qualifiers but went back to the drawing board to produce an eye-catching display in the grand finale and eventually won it at the expense of Aggrey Memorial at the same venue.
The stakes obviously will be high in 2010 but with almost all their key players available for selection, they look the powerhouse to triumph. Most of their players are key members of the various female teams in the Greater Accra basketball series- and their constant active play seems to have put them a better conditioning ahead of tomorrow’s championship.
St Mary’s, Ebenezer, Odorgonno and defending champions Temasco will be equally determined to scale the hurdle and earn the right to represent the region in the grand finale on December 22nd 23rd
