Hilda Koranteng of Nkawkaw Senior High School (Kawsec) was one of the revelations at the 2009 Eastern Regional Sprite Ball Championship.
The 16-year-old point guard showed sublime piece of skills, dexterity and stamina to help her school clinched the trophy at the expense of Akosombo International School in their debut season.
She was a delight to watch as she dazzled her way through the defence network of their opponent with ease.
The young and energetic player grabbed the highest number of field goals in the female category and was arguably the tournament’s best player.
She is expected to spearhead the title challenge of her school in the 5th edition of the prestigious championship. It was massive performance from the Nkawkaw based school who won the competition in their debut season dismantling powerhouses like Akosombo International School (AIS), Oda girls, Aburi Girls among others.
The Kumasi based student of Kawsec student told basketballghana: We know we’re the defending champions and that has placed a lot of pressure on us but we’ll do our best to win the title again for our team’. Koranteng said.
‘We did it in our debut season and so I’m sure we’ll be able to repeat that feat. We have great respect for all the teams and will not underrate any team but we have to believe in ourselves. We know the abilities of the likes of AIS especially whom we beat last year in the finals and naturally they’ll be coming to avenge that defeat and so we’ll see what happens.
