Opoku Ware School in the Ashanti region is alive as the host set the perfect tonic for the 2010 Sprite Ball Championship beating Kumasi Anglican 17-7 in a highly entertaining opening game on Saturday.
Opoku Ware who placed last year are bent on winning the championship for the first and make it to the grand finale in Accra in two month’s time. They displayed sheer bravado and with their vociferous supporters chanting and singing, it was obvious the inspiration was too much for their opponent to handle and they crumbed under pressure.
It been a perfect start for the host as the atmosphere continue to charge for the most prestigious basketball among the youth in the West African country.
The opening day fixtures has seen Yaa Asantewaa beat Kumasi Anglican 20-3 in the girls division to begin their quest to wrestle the title from the defending champions Supreme Toase on a positive note. Supreme Toss themselves opened the defence of their title with a not-too convincing 8-4 victory over Osei Kyeretwie Senior high. They performance looked far from compelling and they’re now set to advance to the next stage of the competition.
