Nkwanta Senior high girls have dominated the major headlines in the Volta region for the past two years and the sort of pressure and heat that comes with an attempt to win a championship for the third time running is beginning to crack of dawn on the defending champions.

The Volta regional Sprite Ball Champions face a stern test to defend the trophy they won last year at the Ho stadium. In 2009 they dismantled six school enroute to be crowned champions for the second successive time.

Key among the victims were household names like Keta, Mawuli, Bueman, Kajebi Asatu senior high schools who fell to the speed and tenacity of Nkwasec.

It was lopsided affair for the side which has taken the regional championship as their bonafied property beating every team right, left and centre.

But the other girl schools have promised to give them a good run for their money at Mawuko Girls Senior high on Saturday October 16. They’re putting strategises and mechanisms in place to ensure they come out tops

Their quest to unseat the champions will not come on a silver platter. Nkwasec have shown over the past few years that they raise the bar whenever the stakes are high, and their team spirit and chemistry has proven to be the catalyst for their success.

Their male counterpart had a difficult campaign last year where they failed to qualify for the grand finale in Accra and they’re also keen to emulate the shining example of their female colleagues this time around.

The girls’ competition will be keenly contested and it will require more than determination and character to dethrone the highly respected Nkwasec.
