The jobs of some coaches in the ongoing Community Dunks could be over by Saturday if they fail to get past the group phase in the finest basketball competition among selected communities in the Greater Accra region in Ghana.

The final group matches reaches home stretch at the University of Ghana basketball court with eyes firmly gripped on the action in group B where all teams have equal chance of making it into the semi-final stage.

With a flurry of matches on Saturday, the tie involving Cantonment – Maamobi-Nima, and Ashaiman – Teshie- Nungua will draw the biggest crowd as it pits two games which have so much at stakes for all the teams in the group.

If you are thinking of making a pick between these two teams one thing that you should be considering is the fact that Cantonment look like they are going to have another crack at the title this year. That certainly is not a lock yet but the defending champions have managed one win at this point in the season and there is significance there as we approach the final set of games.

Maamobi-Nima will be a difficult nut to crack and their somewhat improved performance against Teshie-Nungua bears ample testimony that Coach Abeiku Solomon’s young players won’t be easy prey for Cantonment as they battle for a slot in the knockout phase.

The other fixture in the group sees Ashaiman take on debutant Teshie-Nungua in another explosive encounter at the same venue.

Whichever team gets a good result in group B on Saturday will be guaranteed a place in the semi-final next weekend.

The statistics in the ‘group of death’ makes the final round of matches extremely intriguing and fans are expected to be held spell-bound.

In group A, Kaneshie are safe and sound and their qualification to the next round is already in the basket, but Legon and last year’s bridesmaid Ridge clash in undoubtedly the most ‘important’ match in the group. The two are tied on the same point and that means the winner of their meeting will upstage the other for the right to play in the knockout phase.

Kaneshie have amassed the maximum points from two games and their clash with basement side James Town will not have any bearing on the group- at least from Sam Tagoe’s perspective.
