It may not be a pleasant situation and one that they certainly didn’t expect to find themselves in, but the hard core truth is that James Town has become ‘the pounding’ boys of season-2 of Community Dunks 2010.
Douglas Nii Aryee’s young charges have failed to produce a single win at the University of Ghana basketball court –with disjointed display and a team that clearly lack character, team spirit and chemistry.
They fell to host Legon 25-16 in the opening game before Ridge also handed them their second successive defeat on Sunday- compounding the misery and untold story of the side.
It has been become unambiguous that the side will require a miracle to qualify to the knockout phase of the competition because even an unlikely final victory on September 25 might not be enough to land them a semi-final berth.
Some fans of James Town told basketballghana.com, the current form of their side has thrown them into such a funk that nearly considered offering their support to a different side.
‘It’s a shame but our players have left us down and it agonizing to see us lose two matches which now put us in a difficult situation to qualify to the semi-final stage’. one unhappy fan said
Unquestionably, Star point guard, Solomon Oppong has been in some fine form for his side- displaying sheer individual brilliance and sublime piece of skills to dazzle fans who have thronged the venue in the two-week competition.
The performance of James Town is somehow surprising this season- on the heels of an impressive output in 2009. Against all sense and reason, the side is 2-0 down and now faces an uphill task in Kaneshie whom they meet in the must-win encounter on Saturday.
Kaneshie has been awesome this term –becoming the only side in the championship to record two victories including a famous success over last year’s second-placed team Ridge.
The two sides go head-to-head on Saturday in a game which will be pretty exciting to watch.
Community Dunks is an initiative of Rite Multimedia and sponsored by Indomie with support from 90 Minutes Newspaper and Metro TV. (Weekly highlight of the show on Metro TV on Thursday from 5:30 pm
