After a long wait for this year’s GUSA games (basketball), where all six universities are positioned to take the glittering trophy, finally arrived today with a beautiful opening ceremony at the main basketball court of the University of Ghana at exactly 10:30 am.
Dignitaries including the top echelon of the Ghana Universities Sports Association, the Chief Executive Officer of Rite Multimedia, Yaw Sakyi Afari, members of the Ghana basketball fraternity and representatives of title sponsors Nestle` MILO were all in attendance to grace a colourful ceremony.
Hundreds of crazy and enthusiastic fans gathered at the main basketball court of the University of Ghana to witness a grand opening ceremony to usher in the 21st edition of the 5-day competition.
Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) ladies opened the game with 20-16 victory over University of Education, Winneba ladies.
KNUST ladies displayed great basketball artistry to show that they are really prepared for this year’s games. They showed enough firepower upfront and underlined their ambitions to win the competition this time round.
They have now stated their case clearly that they are in for the title and once again write the name of their school in gold plate.
In the other game in the males division, the University of Ghana delved deep to beat the University for Development Studies in their quest to unseat UEW. They won with a vast difference of 46 – 8 at the end of the game.
Meanwhile, University of Ghana (ladies) takes on University of Cape Coast (ladies) tomorrow on the 6th of June at exactly 7: 00 am as the first game of the day at the same venue.
