Korea have appointed Yoo Jae-hak as their new national team coach.
Yoo, a former guard with the national side, is the coach of the Ulsan Mobis – the champions of the Korean Basketball League (KBL).
He will guide the Koreans at the Guangzhou Asian Games.
“Grabbing a medal is our goal,” Yoo said.
Hopes are high that Yoo will bring the good times back for Korea in Asia.
The national side played at the 2008 FIBA Olympic Qualifying Tournament but blew a huge lead against Canada and crashed out of the tournament.
They endured a disappointing FIBA Asia Championship last summer under coach Hur Jae.
Close to advancing to the Semi-Finals, Korea fell 68-65 to Lebanon and ended up in seventh place.
Members of a special committee that was formed by the Korea Basketball Association (KBA) to find a new man to lead the national side were unanimous in their desire to make Yoo coach for the Asian Games in November.
“I feel some pressure,” Yoo said.
“Everyone knows that Korean basketball has to get through its present crisis.”
