The Ho Stadium will be the centre of attraction when the Volta regional Sprite Ball Championship takes place on Saturday November 7.
Over 20 male and female schools are bracing themselves for an exciting challenge this weekend as they battle to gain an automatic entry into the grand finals to be staged in Accra . All teams are expected to entertain and thrill the thousands of crazy basketball fans who would throng the venue.
Keta Senior High and Nkwanta Senior High won the male and female category last year but will face stiff opposition this year in their attempt to defend the trophies they won.
The Keta based school put up an amazing performance to beat six teams enroute to be crowned champions in the male division at the Ho Stadium and the same venue is expected to bubble up this year.
Keta disposed off the likes of Keta Business School and highly fancied Mawuli Senior High School to emerge victorious in the Volta regional competition last term and they have vowed to redraft history.
But they will have major contenders in the region this time around as Akatsi Secondary Technical School and Mawuli Senior High have promised to give them a good run for their money.
.Giants’ schools like Mawuli Senior High, Bishop Herman School, Awudome School, Keta Business College, Kejebi Asatu Senior High amongst others will compete for honours on Saturday and all the teams have been trimming the rough edges ahead of a cagey showdown.
Only six schools (from both the male and female) from the region will qualify to participate in the mega final at the El-Wak Stadium on the 19th and 20th December, 2009.
Already the male team of Akosombo International School (AIS), Pope John Senior High (Pojoss) and Koforidua Secondary Technical School (KTI) have booked their tickets for the final showdown in Accra on December 19th and 20th at the El-Wak Stadium. Nkawkaw Senior High (Kawsec) shocked pundits to win the female division in the Eastern regional tournament at Koforidua at the expense of Akosombo International (AIS) and Aburi Girls (Abugiss) to qualify for the grand finale in Accra.
The Ashanti region will be represented by male giants Kumasi Technical School (KTI) and perennial rival Prempeh College and Opoku Ware School while highly unassuming Supreme Toss, Kumasi Wesley Girls and Yaa Asantewaa Senior High complete the female cast in the region.
The next train will move to the Western region for the first time on November 13 at the campus of Ghana Secondary Technical School before the Schools and Colleges park host the Central region a day after.
The action in the regional championship will wind down at the El-wak stadium on November 27 for schools in the Greater Accra region.
