Schools in the Ashanti Region who made their debut appearance in the prestigious Sprite Ball Championship had many strategies and aspirations.
But the fairy tale of an unpretentious female school has perpetually leave an imprints in the minds of thousands of crazy basketball fans who gathered at the premises of Opoku Ware Senior High on Saturday October 24.
They were highly unnoticed at the beginning of the competition but their sublime piece of skills, deftness and disposition gave an indication that they were going to be no easy prey for any side on the day.
They were extremely unflustered and exhibited enormous ability on the court to the amazement of hundreds of fans who witnessed the games.
Toasi senior high proved beyond all reasonable doubt that they were not going to wallow in self pity with matches against the most renowned schools in the garden city.
Pundits and connoisseurs of the game were made to eat a humble pie after a gruelling round of matches from the group stages through to the knock-out level.
Supreme Toasi Senior High is a relatively unknown school in the Ashanti Region but their triumph in the female category of the 2009 Sprite Ball Championship has made them gain inches in the Ghanaian press and earned rave reviews worldwide.
They caused a major upset in defeating ‘big’ schools like St Louis, Yaa Asantewaa and eventually putting Kumasi Wesley Girls to sleep in the final game to lift the giant trophy at stake.
Their performance in Kumasi is a strong clue that any side that underrate them in the grand finale in Accra does so at their own peril.
Kudos to their technical staff, players and students of Supreme Toasi who have made themselves and their school proud.
