With the Eastern Regional Spite Ball Championship done and dusted, attention will be shifted to Kumasi this weekend as the Ashanti Region make their debut appearance in the Sprite Ball Championship.
Thirty schools have confirmed their participation in the most prestigious tournament which takes place at the Opoku Ware Senior High on Saturday October 24.
Opoku Ware is expected to enjoy massive support from their home fans but it remains to be seen if that could prove the catalyst for them to win the trophy.
Powerhouses Prempeh College, Kumasi High School, Osei Kyewerekyie, Yaa Asantewaa Senior High, St Louis amongst others will be present on Saturday to make a strong case for themselves.
Six Schools will gain automatic entry into the grand finale of the competition at the El-Wak Stadium next two months in Accra.
Already Eastern Regional schools like Akosombo International School, Pope John’s Senior High and the Koforidua Secondary Technical School have booked their ticket for the grand finale in the male category while Nkawkaw Senior High, Akosombo International School and Aburi Girls Senior High complete the female list from the region.
Expectations have reached an epoch stage and the high number of schools who have shown interest in the one day tournament bears enough testimony of the desire and the enthusiasm that has gripped the Ashanti Region ahead of the Sprite Ball Championship this weekend.
So the battle line has been drawn and the culturally rich region will take the centre stage as schools compete for the six available slots for the grand finale in December at the El –Wak Stadium.

Congrats anyway to Nkawkaw Senior. I will be at El-wak to see how they fair when they come face-to-face with Wesley Girls High School, the current ladies champions. Gudos to Rite Multimedia for the good job you are doing for basketball in Ghana.
I am impressed with the level of basketball development in Ghana. Kumasi is ready and waiting to see real basketball action. Thanks to all the sponsors and organisers for making the dream of talented ballers in the high schools come true. God bless.
