Champions of Community Dunks, Cantonments, have admitted their fiercest rivals Dansoman were their biggest threat at the recently concluded maiden U-18 basketball competition.
Dansoman beat Cantonments at the second classification but lost grounds in the semi-final stage against Ridge.
Speaking in an interview with Yaw Ampofo Ankrah on Atlantis Radio, Small Forward for Cantonments Raymond Maha admitted they were lucky to have won the competition.
‘We thought Dansoman were going to win the competition because of their performance and the fact that we lost against them in the second classification.’
‘They were tough and indeed showed us great stuff but our coach told us to believe in ourselves and so we did and eventually won the tournament against Ridge.
‘We are still training for future tournaments and so we are still in camp.’
‘For now I am concentrating on playing basketball and hopefully Community Dunks will take us to the top in the near future.’
Community Dunks is an initiative of Rite Multimedia and sponsored by Sprite and Indomie with support from DDP Outdoor Ltd, Western Publications, Silicon House Production, Y FM, TV Africa, 90 minutes Newspaper and Ghana’s World Newspaper.
We deserved to win the Community Dunks even though we lost to Tema, Ridge and Dansoman. In the first match against Ridge we lost the game due to poor officiating and complacency but in the matches against Tema and Dansoman we lost due to injury and luck of fitness on most of our players but we still showed we were a championship team and we won the tournament. Community Dunks was a great tournament and it really showed the desire Ghanaians have in basketball…to every one who made Community Dunks happened, every one who participated in it says thank you. that is from the players and the fans we are truly grateful for the tournament…big up to Rite Multimedia, Sprite, Indomie and anyone who made Community Dunks a reality…..
