The 3rd edition of the Sprite ball competition, an inter-schools basketball tournament organised by Rite Multimedia and powered by Sprite, a brand of Coca-Cola Company, made a stop in Cape Coast the Central Regional Capital on December, 22 2008.

At the Schools and Colleges Park, sixteen (16) teams made up of boys and girls qualified out of their zones for the regional competition.

Four boys’ teams and three girls’ teams were expected to qualify for the National finale in Accra.

From a slow start, Mfantsipim boys emerged winners after squashing University Practise Senior High School (U.P.S.S) in the semi-finals and defeated Ghana National College in the finals 12-9 .

St. Augustine’s College took the third place in the boys’ competition after showing a sense of craftiness in their last game against U.P.S.S.

In the girls division, Holy Child senior High School suffered their first straight defeat to their rivals, Wesley Girls in a keenly contested final match which ended 12-4.

Before appearing in their fiercely contested battle, Wesley Girls’ defeated Mfantsiman Girls whiles Holy Child made mince meat of Aggrey Memorial Senior High School (girls) in the semis to book their place in the National finals.

Gifty Nyarko from Wesley Girls’ was adjudged the overall best player in the central region.
