For the second time in club history, Suncity Braves has won the GSP Basketball League Title. The team wrapped up its second league championship by beating LIR Royals on the final day of competition.
The last rounds of fixtures were played out at the Eusbett Court in Sunyani and had Braves beating Royals 41-39 in the penultimate game.
The win coupled with University of Energy and Natural Resources (UENR) 39-40 loss to Desert Rabbits in overtime ensured Suncity walks away with the league trophy.
UENR and Braves were tied on 24 points heading to their respective fixtures; UENR was ranked first in the standings due to a superior goal difference over Braves.
A win would have been enough for last season’s winners UENR to win its second straight title but Rabbits battled hard to force overtime after the game ended tied at 34.
Rabbits went ahead to clinch the one point win and hand Braves the title. Braves won the league in 2016 before UENR dashed the team’s hopes of a second title in 2017.
