2016 Universities, Polytechnics and Colleges (UPAC) Basketball Championship debutants, Blue Crest College have promised to make defending champions Accra Polytechnic sweat in their encounter by “making it difficult for them” according to head coach Kofi Agyemang Kwarteng.
The team will make its maiden appearance in Ghana’s grandest tertiary basketball competition on Friday April at Accra Polytechnic’s newly constructed basketball court.
Blue Crest College will be aiming to make a big splash in the tournament just as fellow unknown side Marshalls University College did in last year’s edition en route to a surprise fourth place finish.
Kwarteng, a former standout Guard disclosed to Basketballghana.com his approach to shackling Accra Poly’s puzzling wing combination of 2015 Most Valuable Player, Shooting Guard Abdul Mutaleeb Alhassan and Small Forward Farahat Tamimu.
“Contain them; keep the ball from them, make it difficult for them on their offense, make use of of our possession” he said.
Blue Crest College will also play Zenith University College and Valley View University in the zone. The team will not only have a daunting task playing the two-time champions but will also have to handle the hostile home crowd which is quite a handful for any team.
However, the team will hope it can secure top spot and earn a place in the last eight of the competition.
The 2016 UPAC Championship is headlined by Rexona, supported by MTN, CAL Bank and Fanyogo in partnership with Basketballghana.com, TV3, YFM and Ghana Sports Newspaper.
